About Us

DHROOPAD is a cultural organization in the greater Washington DC Metro area, committed to promoting the rich cultural heritage of Bangladesh with its slogan ’We Speak of Truth and Beauty'.

DHROOPAD debuted in 2001 with ‘Ekusher Ga(n)tha’ (the Story of the 21st), an audio-visual (songs, poems, dances and slides) depiction of the historic events of the Bengali Language Movement reaching its pinnacle on the 21st February of 1952 that essentially laid the seed for the ultimate independence of Bangladesh in 1971. Since then, DHROOPAD presented a number of highly acclaimed programs including Ritur Por Ritu (Seasons of Bangladesh) - a musical composition with dance, Shimana Chhariey Bangla (Bangla- Beyond Boundaries)- a modified version of Ekusher Ga(n)tha to incorporate proclamation of the 21st February as the International Mother Language Day by the UNESCO,  Hajar Bochhorer Bangla Gaan (Thousand Years of Bangla Music) – a collection of songs presenting the evolution of the Bangla Songs beginning in the 8th Century, Shojon Badiar Ghaat – a drama, to name a few.

The all volunteer efforts of the DHROOPAD members are attributable to their love for the Bangali culture and Bangladesh. DHROOPAD believes in preserving one’s heritage for the tangible and intangible values, and hence, promotes awareness of the rich Bangali culture to its successors who are born/being brought up in the US to be able to take advantage of the best of the both worlds.
