DHROOPAD is a Bengali American cultural organization in the greater Washington DC Metro area formed in 2000 with an objective to promote the rich Bengali cultural heritage, and to foster arts and literature as a force that transcends social, cultural and religious barriers and instigate compassion for humanity.

DHROOPAD believes in preserving one’s heritage for the tangible and intangible values, and hence, promotes awareness of the rich Bangali culture to its successors who are born/being brought up in the US to be able to take advantage of the best of the both worlds.

Since its inception, DHROOPAD presented a number of programs highly acclaimed by the audience for their originality and artistic values; a few notable ones include: 'Bengali- Beyond Boundaries' - a commemoration of the martyrs of the Bengali language movement in Dhaka in 1952 and eventual proclamation of International Mother Language Day by UNESCO in 1999. Ritur Por Ritu (Seasons of Bangladesh) - a musical composition with dance, 'Hajar Bochhorer Bangla Gaan' (Thousand Years of Bangla Music) – a collection of songs presenting the evolution of the Bangla Songs beginning in the 8th Century, Shojon Badiar Ghaat – a much applauded theatrical performance of Bangali poet Jasimuddin’s classic dance drama that champions communal harmony, Nazrul O Prem - An exploration of the conflict and the consummation of love in Nazrul the national Poet of Bangladesh, drama 'Bhul Shwargo' (The Wrong Paradise) based on a short story by Tagore that unfolds the irony of the hustles and bustles of materialistic life and finally celebrates victory of art over the mad rush of monotonous work in a mistaken paradise.
